Lega politicians' 'retreat' at publisher's home becomes lavish aperitif

A planned two-day political retreat for Lega politicians in Veneto, intended as a strategic planning and motivational event, devolved into a social aperitif at the home of party benefactor Antonio Angelucci.

The gathering, initially convened after an April rally in Milan by Matteo Salvini to rally support before elections, faced significant hurdles. Several regional governors had successively announced their non-attendance, and the event's date and location remained uncertain for weeks. What was envisioned as a programmatic workshop to "tighten the bolts" on a party in need of restructuring ultimately became a more relaxed, albeit luxurious, affair.

Attendees arrived at Angelucci's Roman residence, a property noted for its extravagant features. Reports described a cage of pink flamingos, well-tended gardens, a large swimming pool, and a collection of Ferraris, including a distinctive yellow one. The opulence was further emphasized by a lavish basket of orchids sent by Simonetta Matone. Despite the impressive setting, Angelucci himself was reportedly absent, with his Cuban partner Jordi hosting the guests.

The event's shift from a serious political summit to a social gathering highlights internal party dynamics and potential dissatisfaction. While intended for team building, the circumstances surrounding the "retreat" suggest underlying tensions and a departure from its original purpose.
