Lemnos deputy mayor released pending fire investigation

The deputy mayor for cleaning in Lemnos has been released after being investigated in connection with a fire that broke out in the Thanos area. The prosecutor has ordered a preliminary inquiry to determine the circumstances under which the blaze ignited.

A case file was opened against the deputy mayor for negligent arson by omission. Following his examination by the relevant authorities, the decision was made to release him, while the investigation into the incident continues.

According to information from ERT, the deputy mayor was transported via the ferry "Nisos Samos" to Mytilene, where he was presented to the competent authorities for the necessary procedures.

Meanwhile, a new piece of testimony is under scrutiny by the Fire Service, which could potentially alter the course of the investigation. The Northern Aegean Crimes of Arson Directorate is examining a citizen's complaint suggesting the fire may have been deliberately started by a third person.
