Liga MX unveils new corporate governance structure

Liga MX, Mexico's premier professional football league, has unveiled a new corporate governance system designed to enhance its operations and global competitiveness. The changes, ratified by all 18 clubs, include the establishment of the Mexican Professional Football League, A.C., operating under the legal framework of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF).

Mikel Arriola, the Commissioner of Liga MX, stated that this new structure will serve as a vehicle to "maximize its assets like the best leagues in the world." He emphasized that the reform is based on international best practices and aims to pave the way for a "world-class league," aligning with the mandate from the Assembly and the consensus of the clubs.

The new governance model also introduces four specialized committees: Deportivo (Sporting), Comercial (Commercial), Ética y Buen Gobierno (Ethics and Good Governance), and Inversión y Certificación (Investment and Certification). Each committee will comprise six Liga MX clubs, the league president, and a vice president for each branch. These committees are intended to bolster administration and oversight within the FMF.

While the new entity and committees have been established, the specific distribution of clubs among these committees has not yet been disclosed. Arriola has instructed Francisco Iturbide, the newly appointed President of Liga MX, to announce these delegations once they are finalized. This move signals a significant restructuring effort aimed at modernizing the league's management and improving its overall standing.
