Lin Kuo-chang proposes doubling school books, upgrading lighting; Chen Pei-yu approves

Yilan County magistrate candidate Lin Kuo-chang unveiled his education platform, promising to double the number of books in schools and upgrade campus lighting to educational-grade LEDs within eight years. He presented these policies at a "Han Sister Reads Picture Books with You" event in Yilan, attended by legislator Chen Pei-yu and mayoral candidate Han Ying. Lin emphasized that the school environment significantly impacts learning and that improving reading resources and protecting children's eyesight are crucial. His plan includes gradually expanding digital and physical book procurement to achieve the doubling goal. Additionally, he proposed a comprehensive lighting assessment for schools, replacing old fixtures with specialized LED lights. Lin also pledged to continue free school meals, establish a committee to improve nutrition, increase subsidies for children's medical visits and vaccinations, and implement a smart pick-up platform to ease parental burdens. Legislator Chen Pei-yu praised Lin's proposals, noting that the increase in books, lighting upgrades, and nutrition improvements directly address parental concerns. She expressed strong agreement and affirmation of his policies. Meanwhile, mayoral candidate Han Ying observed the lack of sheltered outdoor spaces for children's activities in Yilan, which are often affected by weather. She committed to increasing multi-functional indoor venues and sheltered areas if elected mayor, aiming to provide safe and comfortable spaces for activities and to foster closer community ties through events like picture book readings.
