Linda McCartney honored with U.S. postage stamp series

Linda McCartney, a multifaceted artist and activist, will be honored with a dedicated series of 20 postage stamps in the United States. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) announced the upcoming release, which will feature five distinct photographs from her extensive body of work.

McCartney's photography career, which spanned nearly four decades, captured the spirit of the 1960s through intimate portraits of music icons and documented everyday life with authentic imagery. Her work graced the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 1968 with a portrait of Eric Clapton, making her the first female photographer to achieve this distinction. Throughout her career, she photographed legendary musicians such as The Doors, Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, and Frank Zappa.

Beyond her photographic achievements, Linda McCartney was also a musician, a cookbook author, and a dedicated animal rights activist. She co-founded the band Wings with her husband, former Beatle Paul McCartney, where she played keyboards. McCartney passed away in 1998 at the age of 56 from breast cancer. The commemorative stamps will be available at USPS locations across the U.S. starting September 25.
