Linknet and Serang Community Plant 5,000 Mangroves for Coastal Protection

PT Link Net Tbk, an Indonesian telecommunications company, organized a mangrove planting event in Serang, Indonesia, involving local communities, students, and environmental groups. The initiative, part of the "New Home-Pass, New Tree" program, aims to plant 5,000 mangrove seedlings to protect coastal settlements from abrasion and support the livelihoods of local fishermen.

The event coincides with World Mangrove Day on July 26, themed "Protecting Mangroves, Securing Future Generations." This program is a continuation of Linknet's sustainability efforts, which began in 2025. In 2025, the company planted 22,500 trees, including 13,500 mangroves and 9,000 terrestrial trees. Linknet stated that for every expansion of its digital connectivity network, a tree is planted, symbolizing harmony between technological advancement and environmental preservation.

The Serang City government welcomed the initiative. Mayor Budi Rustandi highlighted the crucial role of mangroves in protecting the coast from abrasion and tidal surges, serving as habitats for marine life, and absorbing significant amounts of carbon. "Planting mangroves means we are investing in Serang City's future as a climate-resilient city," he said, urging for continued promotion of such environmental movements and hoping mangroves become a new symbol of pride for Serang City.
