Lithuania Announces Additional 5 Million Euro Funding for Boiler Replacements

Lithuania is launching an additional 5 million euro funding round to support residents in replacing outdated, polluting biomass boilers with new heating systems. The Lithuanian Energy Agency (LEA) announced that applications will open on August 3rd at 2 PM.

"Given the significant public interest in financial support for replacing inefficient biomass boilers and the rapid utilization of funds for these specific replacements, the budget for planned calls for replacing polluting boilers has been reallocated," stated LEA Director Agnė Bagočiutė. "An additional call for applications to replace inefficient biomass-using boilers nationwide is now being announced." She urged applicants to fill out forms carefully to ensure timely processing and disbursement of funds.

Future calls for replacing boilers that use fossil fuels will proceed as scheduled, with the next opening on October 1st, allocating 10 million euros in subsidies. These calls will be announced on the first working day of each quarter. The agency noted that applications for fossil fuel boilers will also open on October 1st, with 10 million euros in subsidies available.

Eligible residents can receive compensation if they have already installed certified Class 5 biofuel boilers or specific types of heat pumps (ground-water, water-water, air-water, air-air) no earlier than July 26, 2023. Compensation is not available for new homes or properties that previously lacked any heating system. The program also extends to those who updated their heating equipment no earlier than December 16, 2024, specifically for air-air heat pumps or if replacing a tile stove or fireplace in an apartment within a multi-unit building. To date, over 18,700 residents have replaced their heating devices and received nearly 62 million euros in compensation.
