Lithuania Funds Free School Lunches for One-Third of Students

Lithuania is significantly increasing its investment in student welfare by allocating nearly 60 million euros for free school lunches during the current academic year. This substantial funding is expected to provide meals for approximately one-third of the nation's student population.

The program ensures that all preschool, first, and second-grade students receive free lunches, irrespective of their family's financial situation. This universal approach aims to guarantee that all young learners have access to nutritious meals, supporting their health and educational development from the earliest stages.

In addition to free lunches, the state is offering further financial assistance to families facing economic challenges. Households with lower incomes are eligible to receive support of up to 148 euros per student for school supplies. This dual approach of providing free meals and aid for educational materials underscores the government's commitment to easing the financial burden on families and ensuring equitable access to education.
