Lithuania's Cherry Festival Celebrates Summer and Nature's Wilds

The annual Žagarė Cherry Festival in Lithuania offered more than just its namesake fruit this year. The event embraced the natural world, incorporating activities aimed at celebrating and preserving the local environment, including efforts to eradicate invasive species.

Festival-goers browsed a craft fair in the town center, entertained by the group "Bernužėliai." After purchasing authentic goods, attendees were invited to the main event area near Žvelgaitis Lake.

The celebration also ventured into the wild with a segment exploring the Kamanai State Nature Reserve. Accompanied by a guide, the team navigated the dense, jungle-like terrain of the protected marshland, a place typically off-limits without supervision. The reserve itself is vast, requiring a 51-kilometer trek to circle its perimeter, highlighting the unique natural experience offered during the festival.
