Lithuania sees stark contrasts: some areas flooded by rain, others still lack it

Lithuania is facing notable differences in rainfall this June, with some regions experiencing excessive precipitation while others are still in need of rain. Utena and Dūkštas have recorded the highest amounts of precipitation so far, with 93 mm each, which translates to 126% and 135% of the usual June rainfall, respectively.

In contrast, Dotnuva in the Kėdainiai district has received the least rain, with only 40.1 mm, or 68% of the monthly norm. Other areas with less than average rainfall include Panevėžys, Akmenė, Kybartai, Anykščiai, Varėna, Vilnius (Trakų Vokė), and Lazdijai.

Meteorologists anticipate warmer and drier conditions across Lithuania in the coming days. Only parts of the country are expected to receive rain before Saturday morning. More significant rainfall might occur on Sunday, but the beginning of the new week is forecast to be drier again.

The data was collected from 140 measurement points, though localized heavy showers may cause slight inaccuracies in certain areas. For Friday night, no significant rain is expected, with light winds and temperatures between 10-15 degrees Celsius. During the day, scattered showers are possible in some places, with temperatures ranging from 20-25 degrees Celsius, and 17-19 degrees Celsius by the coast. Saturday is expected to be rain-free with light winds and temperatures between 24-29 degrees Celsius. Sunday may see short showers and thunderstorms in many districts, with winds increasing and temperatures reaching 25-30 degrees Celsius, and 20-24 degrees Celsius by the coast.
