Lithuania to Conduct Limited Fishing Control Checks for One Month

Environmental officers in Lithuania will intensify checks on limited fishing activities throughout the country from August 15 to September 15. The campaign aims to ensure that anglers strictly adhere to established regulations, possess the required permits, and do not exceed the permitted fish catch quantities.

According to the Department, these inspections are crucial for the conservation of fish resources and the prevention of violations in Lithuania's inland waters. The focus is on safeguarding aquatic ecosystems and promoting sustainable fishing practices.

Penalties for non-compliance are significant. Anglers caught violating the general limited fishing regulations face fines between 90 and 170 euros. More severe penalties apply to those who breach the regulations for limited fishing of salmon, sea trout, brown trout, and grayling, with fines ranging from 250 to 550 euros.

The Department reminds the public that limited fishing may involve additional conditions and restrictions. These can include specific rules for fishing protected or endangered species, intensive fish farming areas, or waters where recreational fishing is otherwise restricted. Furthermore, specific non-standard tools and methods may be subject to regulation. The right to engage in limited fishing is acquired only through possessing an angler's card or a permit issued by the fishing area user for limited fishing.
