Lithuanian Christian Democrats nominate 21 for Kaunas mayoral post

The Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) has put forward 21 potential candidates for the upcoming mayoral election in Kaunas, Lithuania's second-largest city.

Among the nominated individuals are Gintarė Skaistė and Giedrė Balčytytė, both members of the Seimas (parliament), as well as Aleksandras Abišala, a signatory of Lithuania's Act of Independence. Other nominated figures include former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Laura Ramanauskaitė, Egidijus Stancikas, the head of the National Kaunas Drama Theatre, Martynas Prievelis, the leader of the TS-LKD faction in the Kaunas City Municipal Council, and Šarūnas Jasiukevičius, a director, publicist, and public figure.

"The festival of democracy has begun! Our branches have already chosen, so the time is approaching for Kaunas residents to gather," stated TS-LKD executive secretary Kamilė Gogelienė. A meeting of the Kaunas Congress Council is scheduled for Thursday, where it will be decided which individuals will advance to the open candidate elections. A maximum of five candidates will be permitted to participate in this stage.

Registration for party supporters is slated for August 4-20, with the primary elections taking place in Kaunas on August 29-30. The direct elections for mayor and municipal council members are scheduled for the spring of next year.
