Lithuanian farmers to apply for sustainable investment support from Sept. 28

Lithuanian farmers will be able to submit applications for sustainable investment support starting September 28, with all applications received by that date being evaluated under established criteria. The initiative, part of the Lithuanian Agriculture and Rural Development 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, focuses on investments that reduce greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions, support biogas production from farm manure, and enhance animal welfare standards.

To encourage participation from smaller farms, the program includes a scoring system. Projects focusing solely on emission reduction will receive 30 points. New applicants to the "Sustainable Investments in Agricultural Holdings" measure will be awarded 25 points. Farmers with economic activity up to 200,000 euros will receive 25 points, while those between 200,000 and 500,000 euros will get 15 points. Farms with economic activity exceeding 500,000 euros but not surpassing 1 million euros will receive 5 points.

Additional points are available for farmers operating in areas with natural or other specific constraints, and for young farmers or agricultural cooperatives. The measure also simplifies the process for investing in biogas plants up to 97 kW, removing the need for multiple commercial offers and procurement procedures, thereby reducing administrative burdens. The government aims to boost the involvement of smaller economic-sized farms in this support scheme.
