Lithuanian PM's dissertation under ethics review at ISM University

Concerns have been raised about the academic integrity of Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius's dissertation, leading to an investigation by the ISM University's ethics committee. Dalius Misiūnas, the university's rector, emphasized that such academic ethics issues must be addressed by the appropriate institutions.

Misiūnas confirmed that the university's ethics committee has launched a formal inquiry into the dissertation. The committee is responsible for evaluating the matter and will subsequently transmit its conclusions to the Academic Ethics Service. The rector clarified that he would not be personally involved in assessing the dissertation, as the established procedure designates this task to the ethics committee.

The electronic version of Sinkevičius's dissertation was made available on the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library after obtaining the author's consent. The rector also confirmed that two scientific articles were published during the dissertation's defense, and the work was reviewed by scholars from various universities. While computer tools can aid in analysis, Misiūnas stressed that specialists must make the final determination regarding its academic merit.
