Lithuanian Prosecutor’s Office Seeks U.S. Assistance in Jeffrey Epstein Investigation

Lithuania’s General Prosecutor’s Office has asked U.S. law enforcement for legal assistance in its pretrial investigation into information contained in Jeffrey Epstein’s files.

"The request for legal assistance has been sent to U.S. law enforcement institutions," Rasa Stundžienė, chief specialist at the prosecutor’s communications department, told ELTA. The office has not disclosed what specific information it requested.

Stundžienė said investigators have questioned more than 20 people, but no one has been formally recognized as a victim in the case. Officials are still identifying people who may have been harmed and urged possible human-trafficking victims connected to the Epstein case to contact police or Lithuania’s Center Against Human Trafficking and Exploitation.

Lithuanian law enforcement opened the pretrial investigation in February after reviewing information made public in Epstein’s correspondence. The Panevėžys County Police Headquarters is conducting the investigation, under the organization and oversight of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The documents released by the U.S. Justice Department reportedly include more than three million pages, along with photographs and videos. Lithuania appears more than 1,200 times and Vilnius more than 1,000 times. The records include a request to transfer 75,000 euros to an SEB bank account in Lithuania in 2017, as well as payments made in 2018 to two ballet organizations by the Gratitude America MMD foundation, led by Epstein. The material also mentions Valdas Petreikis and his wife, Simona Petreikė, including a reported possible education grant and a stated $3 million inheritance.
