Lithuanian Athletics Team Heads to European Championships with Strong Contenders

Lithuania's national athletics team, comprising 19 athletes, has arrived at the European Championships, poised to make their mark on the international stage. The squad represents a significant contingent, with 8 athletes achieving direct qualifying standards and an additional 11 securing spots through their rankings, highlighting the depth of talent in the country.

The discus throw event features a formidable Lithuanian presence, led by favorite Mykolas Alekna, who has demonstrated exceptional form with throws nearing 73 meters. He is joined by his brother Martynas and former European and World champion Andrius Gudžius, forming a powerful trio. Meanwhile, runner Gabija Galvydytė is set to compete in both the 800m and 1500m races, showcasing her versatility and endurance.

This year's championships also mark historic milestones for Lithuanian athletics. For the first time, the nation will have a representative in the pole vault, and a 5000m runner will compete for Lithuania at the European Championships for the first time in over 50 years.
