Locomotive fire disrupts trains between Periș and Chitila

A fire broke out in the locomotive of a CFR work train at Buftea station on Sunday afternoon, temporarily disrupting rail traffic between Periș and Chitila.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on track 4. CFR said the locomotive belonged to train 91108, operated by the company. The work train consists of hopper wagons used to transport crushed stone.

To allow firefighters to intervene safely, crews temporarily de-energized the overhead contact line along the Periș to Chitila section on both tracks. CFR said the measure was necessary to remove electrical risks and protect firefighters and other people involved in the response.

Firefighters were working at the scene while CFR specialists monitored the situation. They were also due to inspect the infrastructure and electrification equipment before restoring power. CFR said rail safety and a secure emergency response remained the immediate priorities.

Under these conditions, rail traffic on the Periș-Chitila section is temporarily affected until the intervention is completed and the technical conditions required to re-energize the contact line are met.
