Los Angeles council member visits Mexico City Metro, seeks inspiration for 2028 Olympics

A Los Angeles city official has visited Mexico City's Metro system, expressing admiration for its modernization efforts and planning to draw inspiration for her own city's transit ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games. Imelda Padilla, a council member for District 6 in Los Angeles, California, toured the renovated stations of Line 2. She was accompanied by Adrián Rubalcava, the general director of the Mexico City Metro. Padilla entered the system at the Bellas Artes station, noting its Art Deco style and the art exhibitions within. She highlighted the speed at which the renovations were completed, particularly in preparation for FIFA events. Padilla stated she was "very impressed with your Metro system, seeing how in such a short time they were able to remodel it for FIFA visitors." She also observed "the happiness of those who use the Metro and their satisfaction with the change that occurred in such a short time on Line 2." Padilla intends to bring these ideas back to the Los Angeles Metro system, which will host numerous visitors during the Olympics. Rubalcava expressed gratitude for the opportunity to coordinate relations between Los Angeles and Mexico City, emphasizing a commitment to working together to improve both transit systems by sharing experiences.
