Emilio Lozoya's sister seeks to overturn indictment in Agronitrogenados case via amparo

Gilda Lozoya, sister of former Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) director Emilio Lozoya Austin, is seeking to overturn her indictment in the Agronitrogenados case. She filed for indirect amparo, a legal challenge, aiming to invalidate the charges against her.

In early July, a judge at the Federal Criminal Justice Center ordered her indictment for money laundering. Prosecutors allege she benefited from bribes her brother received during the administration of former President Enrique Peña Nieto. These bribes were reportedly paid for the overpriced purchase of the Agronitrogenados fertilizer plant.

Gilda Lozoya has been granted provisional release. She appealed to the Eighth District Judge in Criminal Matters, who granted her a temporary injunction, though the specific effects of this measure remain undisclosed. The judge has scheduled a hearing for August 11 to decide on the definitive injunction and has requested preliminary reports from relevant authorities within 48 hours.

The Attorney General's Office (FGR) accuses Gilda Susana Lozoya Austin of receiving and transferring $3.4 million. This sum allegedly came from Alonso Ancira Elizondo, owner of Altos Hornos de México (AMSA), as payment for facilitating the purchase of the fertilizer plant. Lozoya Austin also filed a separate amparo lawsuit against the FGR, protesting the alleged leak of photos and a video related to her arrest at Mexico City International Airport upon her return from Europe.
