Los Cabos Certifies 29 Hotels as Temporary Shelters for Hurricane Season

Los Cabos, a major tourist hub, has bolstered its hurricane preparedness by certifying 29 hotels as temporary shelters. This network now includes 18 newly added establishments that recently met the stringent safety, operational capacity, and internal protocol requirements.

These certified hotels are equipped to provide refuge for both tourists and local workers during potential emergencies like heavy rains, strong winds, and flooding associated with tropical cyclones. Francisco Cota Márquez, head of Civil Protection in Los Cabos, highlighted that the expansion of this shelter network is crucial for effectively responding to the threat of tropical storms.

Civil Protection authorities are continuing to identify and certify more establishments, urging other tourism sector businesses to join the initiative. Los Cabos's coastal location makes it vulnerable to tropical cyclones annually, underscoring the importance of robust emergency response systems and inter-sectoral coordination to minimize risks.
