Lowkie Stuns Wilson in Siparia Open Final

Anson Lowkie turned a two-game deficit into a warning ahead of the National Senior Table Tennis Championships. The PowerGen player defeated Carenage Blasters opponent Aaron Wilson in the Siparia Open first division final at the Siparia Community Centre.

Wilson took the first two games 11-7 and 11-6, but Lowkie fought back to win the next three, 14-12, 11-8 and 11-9. Lowkie had reached the final by beating WASA’s Neville Cabie in straight games, while Wilson defeated Oxford’s David Gopaul in four games.

Lowkie had also beaten WASA’s Joel Henry in the quarter-finals. Gopaul advanced against Enterprise Youths player Jerry Joseph after a close four-game contest. Wilson and Cabie received quarter-final byes.

The finalists, along with Gopaul, Cabie, Joseph and Henry, are expected to compete in the men’s singles group stage of the National Senior Championships at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua on Saturday.

Marcus Gabriel of Guaracara Table Tennis Club won Division Two, defeating HEY’s Satesh Jodhan 11-9, 11-5 and 11-3. Gabriel had beaten CVS player Donald Humphrey in the semi-finals, while Jodhan defeated another CVS player, Ronnie Guevarra. In Division Three, Ishta Ramdatt beat Yuvvie Kantasingh 11-8 and 11-3 in an all-Cunupia Crew final.
