A pervasive and concerning smell of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has blanketed large swathes of Attica, prompting unease among residents and a cautious response from authorities. The odor, particularly intense in the southern suburbs and extending to other areas, has left citizens searching for answers as emergency services scramble to identify its origin.

While the source remains elusive, the Fire Service has issued a clear directive: stay indoors and keep windows shut. This precautionary advice aims to mitigate potential risks until the situation is fully understood. Some schools in the most affected areas have even been evacuated as a safety measure, highlighting the seriousness with which the incident is being treated.

Despite extensive checks by the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA), the Hellenic Natural Gas Distribution Network Operator (ENOA), and the Port Authority, no leaks or malfunctions have been identified at key facilities like Revythoussa or any other part of the network. Maritime traffic has also been scrutinized, with no relevant incidents reported. This lack of a clear culprit has only amplified the public's concern.

The Hellenic Coordination Center for Emergency Operations and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK) has been inundated with calls since late morning, yet official updates on the cause remain scarce. Environmental authorities have been notified, but preliminary readings from fixed monitors show no elevated pollutant levels beyond the pervasive, unpleasant odor.
