Lt Col Robert Nahamya Assumes Command of UPDF 501 Brigade

Lt Col Robert Nahamya has officially taken command of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) 501 Brigade, succeeding Col Nathan Bainomugisha in a handover ceremony held at Zoka in Adjumani District. Col Bainomugisha will now proceed to the National Defence College-Uganda for further military training.

The ceremony was presided over by Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, Commander of the UPDF 4 Infantry Division. He congratulated both officers, highlighting that military training is now recognized as a crucial opportunity for professional development and career advancement, a shift from past perceptions of it being a punishment. Maj Gen Busizoori commended Col Bainomugisha for his leadership in stabilizing the Zoka, Apa, and surrounding areas during his tenure.

Maj Gen Busizoori urged Lt Col Nahamya to build upon the existing achievements by effectively utilizing resources, planning prudently, maintaining operational flexibility, and strengthening community engagement within his area of responsibility. Lt Col Nahamya expressed his gratitude to the UPDF leadership for the trust placed in him and pledged to lead the 501 Brigade professionally, adhering to the core values of the UPDF and working diligently to achieve the division's objectives.

Local officials, including Emanuel Okware, Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Adjumani, thanked the UPDF for its role in safeguarding the region and pledged continued cooperation. Osibon Ocheng, Resident District Commissioner of Amuru District, praised Maj Gen Busizoori for initiatives promoting agriculture and community development, and acknowledged the professionalism of UPDF commanders.

In the past, being nominated for training was viewed as a punishment, with some believing it meant being removed from attractive assignments. Today, training is recognised as an opportunity that adds value to one's career and future.
