Luciana Aymar and Fernando González build a family life in Santiago after a decade together

Luciana Aymar and Fernando González first met at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but their relationship began years later. They made it official in 2016 and built their home in Santiago, where they are raising their two children, Félix and Lupe.

For Aymar, the transition away from elite sport proved emotionally difficult. The former captain of Argentina’s Las Leonas ended her high-level career in 2014 and said she experienced anguish during the early period after retirement. She told LA NACION that psychoanalysis helped her work through those difficulties and find a new personal balance alongside González.

Aymar, one of hockey’s most decorated players, won the world player of the year award eight times. She credits González with playing an important role in her recovery, describing the former tennis player as a generous partner who provides support and affection within their family life.

The couple married in Chile in 2023 in front of 270 guests. The ceremony included prominent figures from Argentine hockey, including Magui Aicega and Sergio Vigil.

Their daily life now combines caring for their children with new professional projects. Aymar works as a leadership speaker and businesswoman, and she is part of Women4Sports, a company that connects athletes with sponsors and agents. She also promotes the visibility of women athletes through editorial projects such as the book Épicas. González keeps a lower profile and supports his wife in family decisions.

Motherhood changed Aymar’s perspective on daily life. “Athletes often occupy the center of the universe,” she told LA NACION, referring to the demands of high-performance sport. The arrival of Félix and Lupe shifted that focus toward the family, including recreational outings to nature reserves along the coast of Chile’s Valparaíso Region.
