Ludovic Orban: Nicușor Dan was 'cornered' when PNL nominated Siegfried Mureșan

Former Prime Minister Ludovic Orban stated that President Nicușor Dan was "put with his back to the wall" when the National Liberal Party (PNL) nominated Siegfried Mureșan for the prime minister position.

Orban dismissed Dan's claims that party disagreements prevent him from fulfilling his constitutional duties. "This story about blaming the parties and Nicușor Dan not doing his job... is nonsense, a statement without any basis," Orban said on B1 TV. He pointed out that Dan has several premier proposals, including Siegfried Mureșan from PNL-USR-UDMR, Grindeanu from PSD, and Victor Ponta from the United for Romania group. "So he has choices, he can no longer say he has no one to choose from, he must designate a prime minister," Orban asserted.

However, Orban believes that by nominating Siegfried Mureșan, PNL, USR, and UDMR effectively cornered Dan. "If he were to nominate Grindeanu, as he might have wanted, he would lose the last remaining supporters who still give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he has something in mind," Orban explained.

Orban expressed confidence that if President Dan designates a prime minister, the proposed government would win a parliamentary vote. "If the president holds a press conference tomorrow and designates Siegfried Mureșan, or Bolojan, or Dominic Fritz, or Grindeanu if he prefers him, and at the same time says that if Parliament rejects this government he will dissolve Parliament and call early elections within the legal timeframe, the government will pass without any problem," Orban concluded.
