Lula Campaign to Ask Election Court to Reconsider Suspension of Flávio Bolsonaro Ad

Lula’s campaign plans to challenge the suspension of an election advertisement that presented accusations against Flávio Bolsonaro in the form of a political résumé. The campaign’s communications secretary, Éden Valadares, said the material drew on facts reported in the news.

The advertisement, titled “Know Flávio Bolsonaro’s résumé,” described the PL candidate as a “ghost employee,” said he had been accused of money laundering and criminal organization in the rachadinha scandal, and claimed he had been caught by federal police asking for 134 million in the Banco Master scandal.

We accepted the electoral court’s preliminary order requiring the audiovisual material presenting Flávio Bolsonaro’s résumé to be taken down, but we are considering a request for reconsideration.

The Superior Electoral Court suspended the material after Justice Estela Aranha ruled that it went beyond the limits of acceptable political criticism. She said the ad did not simply express an opinion or debate political positions. Instead, it built a narrative associating the candidate with criminal organizations without concrete data, a formal investigation or a legal allegation supporting those claims.

The content published exceeds the limits of permissible political criticism.

Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign argued that he had never faced proceedings over the allegation that he was a ghost employee and said the claim had no factual basis. It also said he had not been convicted in the rachadinha case and that the complaint filed by prosecutors had been archived by the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice. Using the word “accused” in the present tense, the campaign said, created a false impression that a criminal case was currently underway.
