Luqueño and Trinidense set for "auriazules" clash in Itauguá

Sportivo Luqueño and Sportivo Trinidense, both coming off victories in the opening round, are set to clash in Itauguá on Wednesday at 4:00 PM for the second fixture of the Clausura 2026 championship. The match pits two "auriazules" (gold and blue) teams against each other.

Sportivo Luqueño, nicknamed "El Chanchón," achieved a comeback 2-1 win against Guaraní in Capiatá. Meanwhile, "La Cruz amarilla" (The Yellow Cross), Sportivo Trinidense, also secured a 2-1 victory after initially falling behind against Cerro Porteño at La Nueva Olla.

The stakes are particularly high for Sportivo Luqueño, managed by Uruguayan coach Hernán Rodrigo López. The team is in a precarious position regarding the average points system, which determines relegation. They are currently just above Rubio Ñu and San Lorenzo, meaning a strong performance from Trinidense could see them leapfrog Luqueño in the standings, as they are only separated by one season in terms of historical performance.
