Luqueño seeks reinforcements amid serious relegation threat

Sportivo Luqueño is navigating the final stages of its preparations for the upcoming season, but the club faces a grim outlook with a significant risk of relegation. Coach Hernán Rodrigo López ideally wants his full squad available from the start of training to ensure consistent physical conditioning, a situation that is not currently ideal for the Uruguayan manager.

The club is actively pursuing new acquisitions. They are in discussions to bring in Argentine central midfielder Samuel Beltrán, 22, on loan from Rosario Central. Beltrán has made limited appearances for Rosario Central's senior team, playing primarily in the reserve division in 2026.

Additionally, Sportivo Luqueño is considering the return of Marcelo de la Cruz Pérez. Pérez, who previously played for Luqueño in the second division, did not perform well at subsequent clubs. He most recently played for Juventud Las Piedras in Uruguay, appearing in 13 matches and scoring only one goal. Before that, he had a brief stint with Huracán in Argentina where he saw little playing time.

So far, the club's confirmed signings for the latter part of the season are Nicolás Campisi, Miguel Barreto, Lucas Morales, and Alexis Cantero. The team's precarious position near the relegation zone underscores the urgency of these potential new additions.
