Magnus Cort dreams of ending his cycling career in the national team jersey at the World Championships

Danish professional cyclist Magnus Cort harbors a strong desire to conclude his illustrious career by competing in the World Championships, seeing it as the ultimate stage for his final race. Cort, who has represented Denmark at five previous World Championships, including the 2019 event where Mads Pedersen secured victory, considers it a significant honor to potentially end his journey in the national jersey.

It could be great to finish at the World Championships. I won't get on the World Championship team just for showing up, so it would be an honor if I have the level to be there.

Currently participating in his eighth and likely final Tour de France, Cort's immediate future depends on his physical condition post-race. He expressed optimism about competing in the Vuelta a España if he recovers well from the Tour and feels fit in the subsequent weeks. This potential participation in another Grand Tour would serve as a stepping stone towards his ultimate goal.

I have already written to national coach Michael Mørkøv that I am interested in participating.

The 2023 World Championships, scheduled to take place in Montreal, Canada, feature a challenging, hilly route. Cort has already communicated his interest in being selected for the Danish team to national coach Michael Mørkøv. He emphasized that his inclusion would depend on his ability to contribute meaningfully to the team's captains, such as Mattias Skjelmose or Jonas Vingegaard.

But if I am to be selected, I must have a level where I can help Mattias Skjelmose or Jonas Vingegaard, or whoever is there as captains.

Should Cort's physical condition allow and his performance warrant selection, the road race at the World Championships on September 27th could mark the final chapter of his professional cycling career. This aspiration reflects his deep connection to the sport and his desire to finish on a high note, representing his country one last time.
