Venezuelan hitman confesses to killing police officer in Peru

Jose Gregorio Dumas Rodriguez, a 32-year-old Venezuelan national known as 'Pelo de Oro,' has confessed to the murder of a Peruvian National Police officer in Pisco. Rodriguez, who admitted to killing for money without asking questions, stated, "Since I picked up a gun at 13, I'm sick of living on the edge." He arrived in Peru just a month before his arrest and had prior prison sentences in Venezuela and Colombia for aggravated robbery.

Rodriguez was apprehended in Villa El Salvador after fleeing Pisco and then Chincha following the killing of Second Sergeant Carlos Aurel Núñez Pérez. He was reportedly planning to leave the country when captured. During questioning by General Víctor Revoredo, head of the Criminal Investigation Directorate, Rodriguez calmly detailed his actions. When asked about his work in Peru, he responded, "What you've seen... killing people." He confirmed the Pisco incident was a homicide and that he shot the officer because he was "working."

The murder appears linked to an extortion racket targeting the liquor store Punto Callao. On July 29, the day Sergeant Núñez Pérez was killed, two Venezuelan men on a motorcycle had previously fired shots at the establishment and left a note demanding payment. They also sent threatening text messages to the owner. Days earlier, on July 25, the same individuals had menaced a private security guard at the store.
