Majalengka Faces Widespread Fires, 10.85 Hectares Burned in One Week

Majalengka Regency in Indonesia has been battling a surge of forest and land fires, with 10.85 hectares scorched between July 12 and July 21, 2026. The local disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) reported 12 separate incidents across multiple sub-districts, highlighting the escalating dry season threat.

From the data recapitulation of disaster handling, the accumulated area of land affected by forest and land fires has reached 10.85 hectares.

Agus Tamim, head of the Majalengka BPBD, stated that dry weather coupled with strong winds significantly accelerated the spread of flames, particularly in brushwood, plantations, and critical hilly areas. "The Rapid Response Team (TRC) of BPBD, along with elements of the Fire Department, TNI, Polri, village governments, and volunteers, are continuously working to extinguish fires and assess the situation to prevent further spread into residential areas," Tamim said.

Dry weather accompanied by strong winds is the main factor accelerating the spread of fire, especially in areas of brushwood, plantations, and critical land in hilly regions.

The most affected areas include three fires in Baribis Village, Cigasong Sub-district, totaling approximately 4.02 hectares, and one in Kawunghilir Village spanning one hectare. Kasokandel Sub-district saw fires in Wanajaya Village (two hectares) and three incidents in Girimukti Village (around 0.22 hectares). Kadipaten Sub-district experienced a two-hectare fire in Kadipaten Village. In Majalengka Sub-district, fires occurred in Majalengka Wetan Village (1.5 hectares) and Babakanjawa Village (about 0.06 hectares). Gunungkuning Village in Sindang Sub-district also reported a 0.05-hectare fire.

The Rapid Response Team (TRC) of BPBD along with elements of the Fire Department, TNI, Polri, village governments, and volunteers continue to move quickly to extinguish fires and assess the location so that the fire does not spread to residential areas.

BPBD officials confirmed that all affected sites have undergone firefighting, cooling, and assessment procedures by joint teams to ensure fires are completely extinguished. The agency is urging the public to refrain from opening land by burning, avoid burning trash or straw near dry vegetation, and to immediately report any signs of fire or smoke to local authorities. BPBD personnel are on 24-hour standby to monitor hot spots and respond to all reported fires.
