Major fire near Wembley Stadium causes transport disruptions

A significant fire broke out at a waste facility in Neasden, northwest London, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky, visible from miles away and even central London. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) deployed approximately 125 firefighters and 20 fire engines to combat the blaze at the industrial site on Hannah Close.

The fire impacted an industrial unit measuring about 100 by 150 meters. In response to the heavy smoke, residents in the vicinity were urged to remain indoors and keep their doors and windows shut. Firefighting efforts involved the use of aerial ladder platforms, drones, high-volume pumps, and specialized hose systems.

Public transportation in London was significantly affected by the fire. Transport for London (TfL) announced the suspension of all services on the Metropolitan line and between Willesden Green and Wembley Park on the Jubilee line. Delays were also reported on other sections of the Jubilee line. Additionally, some train services to and from London Marylebone station were delayed or canceled due to the fire's proximity to railway lines.

The facility is operated by London Energy, part of the North London Waste Authority. The company confirmed that all employees were safe and no injuries were reported. An adjacent Amazon distribution center was evacuated as a precautionary measure, though it was not directly impacted by the flames. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have requested the public to stay away from the area due to the ongoing response and heavy smoke. Security measures were increased in the vicinity, given the fire's location approximately one kilometer from Wembley Stadium.
