Major Power Outage Plunges Vantaa Shopping Center into Darkness

A significant power outage plunged the Jumbo shopping center in Vantaa, Finland, into darkness on Monday afternoon, disrupting operations and causing inconvenience to shoppers.

Customer Annika Nummela described being in the mall when the power cut occurred shortly after 1 p.m. She reported that elevators became stuck, requiring staff intervention to help people exit. "The entire center was completely dark," Nummela stated.

Despite the sudden darkness, shoppers generally remained calm. Some patrons continued eating in restaurants, while others used flashlights and phone lights to navigate the corridors. Employees at the natural products store Raw Organ noted that the outage did not cause significant confusion for them, although one customer's transaction was interrupted.

Staff at Raw Organ managed to complete the sale for a customer who had cash, logging the purchase after power was restored. For the two employees who have worked at Jumbo for two months, it was their first experience with such an extensive power outage at the location.
