Makassar Mall Fire Causes Panic, Smoke Inhalation Among Visitors and Staff

A fire erupted in a Makassar mall on Sunday night, engulfing parts of the third and fourth floors and causing panic among visitors and staff. The blaze, which began from a billboard on the upper wall, spread rapidly, with flames visible from the street. Firefighters were dispatched immediately and managed to control the fire within approximately 20 minutes. The affected areas included a clothing store's storage on the third floor and the Timezone amusement area on the fourth. The thick smoke led to some visitors fainting from shock and at least one employee suffering from smoke inhalation. Two individuals received medical treatment at the scene, but authorities confirmed no lives were lost. Around 30 fire units were deployed to prevent the fire from spreading to main store areas. Initial information suggests a potential electrical short circuit in a neon box light as the cause, though further investigation is required. An employee reported seeing the fire suddenly grow large from the back of the mall, with smoke entering the area from outside.
