Makinde PDP bloc dismisses impeachment rumour as Oyo Assembly resumes

The Peoples Democratic Party's South-West leadership has firmly refuted claims of an impeachment plot targeting Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. In a press briefing in Ibadan, the party's Zonal Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, dismissed the rumors as a deliberate attempt to sow political discord and instability.

The reports are baseless and contrived. They formed part of a calculated attempt to generate unnecessary political tension.

These allegations surfaced amidst a complex political landscape within the state, involving the state House of Assembly and prominent traditional figures. The controversy was further fueled by statements from former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who suggested a wider plan targeting the Olubadan of Ibadan. However, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes has indicated the matter has been resolved.

The PDP's zonal leadership unequivocally expressed its unwavering support for Governor Makinde, commending his administration for delivering democratic dividends and strengthening governance institutions. They specifically condemned Fayose's comments, labeling them as irresponsible and a needless politicization of revered traditional institutions, which they believe is harmful to public discourse and national unity.

Makinde has shown stability, focus, and an unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends, while also playing a significant role in sustaining and strengthening multi-party democracy in Nigeria.

The party emphasized its commitment to offering a credible, people-driven alternative focused on stability and good governance.
