Makinde picks ex-SSS DG Daura as running mate

Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has announced Lawal Daura, the former Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), as his running mate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election. The announcement was made at the APM national convention held in Bauchi.

His Presidential running mate is Alh. Lawal Musa Daura, the former Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS) between 2015 and 2018, whom he said was deliberately chosen to solve the security situation of the country.

Daura, who previously served as the SSS chief from 2015 to 2018 before his removal by former President Muhammadu Buhari, was deliberately chosen by Makinde to tackle the nation's pressing security challenges. This strategic pairing aims to leverage Daura's experience in intelligence and security matters to address the country's complex security situation.

During the convention, Makinde was formally elected as the APM's presidential candidate. He stated his commitment to collaborating with politicians who share his vision for a better Nigeria. The APM candidate also expressed his preparedness to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty, attributing the current economic hardship to the poorly implemented policies of the past three years.

The APM Presidential candidate said that he will work actively with like-minded politicians to ensure a better Nigeria come 2027.

The choice of Bauchi as the convention venue was noted as significant, being the home state of Nigeria's first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. Makinde's emergence as the APM candidate and his selection of Daura as his running mate set the stage for the 2027 general elections.
