Malang doctor suspended for unsympathetic BPJS patient comments

A doctor serving at the Pakisaji Community Health Center in Malang, Indonesia, has been suspended for making unsympathetic comments on social media about a patient's complaint regarding the national health insurance.

Dr. Herdiana Ayu Saputri, a civil servant with the Malang District Health Office, posted a sarcastic remark on social media directed at a patient's complaint about BPJS, the public health insurance. Her comment, which has since been deleted, implied that the patient would receive quick care and a comfortable room if they were in critical condition.

The Malang District Health Office has taken swift action, suspending Dr. Saputri to allow for a thorough investigation into the alleged disciplinary violations. "The person concerned has been suspended to provide health services," stated drg Izzah EL Maila, Secretary of the Malang District Health Office. She confirmed that the doctor admitted the social media account belonged to her.

Komisi 4 DPRD Kabupaten Malang, a local legislative body, has also condemned the doctor's actions. Zulham Akhmad Mubarok, Chairman of Komisi 4, called the incident a "slap in the face" for healthcare workers in Malang, who should prioritize public service. The case has also garnered attention from the Malang Regent.
