Malaysia Agriculture Expo Visitors Encouraged to Wear Face Masks Amid Haze

Attendees at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show (MAHA) 2026 are being advised to wear face masks as a health precaution. The recommendation comes in response to current haze and hot weather conditions impacting the event, which runs from August 28 to September 6.

Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, stated that this measure is crucial for enhancing the health protection of visitors. He noted that the first day of MAHA 2026 saw an attendance of 140,000 people, with numbers expected to rise as the holiday period begins.

"I hope visitors will be encouraged to wear face masks because of the haze and weather conditions," Mohamad said during a press conference at the MAHA 2026 opening ceremony. He urged the media to help disseminate this advisory to encourage visitors to bring and wear masks.

The attendance on the first day was already 140,000 people. Today, with the start of the holiday, we expect such a large attendance.

MAHA 2026 anticipates approximately four million visitors throughout its duration. The event aims to generate an estimated RM58 million in sales, with Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth RM8 billion expected to be signed. Additionally, a Merdeka Eve celebration is scheduled for August 30, featuring drone and fireworks displays.
