Malaysia expedites rural water supply projects in Sabah

The Ministry of Rural Development (KKDW) is committed to accelerating and fully implementing rural water supply projects in Sabah, Malaysia. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the ministry will continue to monitor and support the Sabah state government to ensure the smooth execution of these initiatives.

These projects, encompassing new water supply schemes and extensions, have officially been handed over to the state government following approval from the Cabinet, involving departments such as the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Water Supply Department (JBA). The full implementation is slated to commence on January 1, 2027.

Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Minister of Rural Development, noted that discussions and meetings between KKDW and the Sabah state government have been ongoing. He personally chaired a meeting in Kota Kinabalu, and state representatives have also visited KKDW to coordinate efforts.

He emphasized the need to expedite these projects for their complete implementation by the Sabah state government. Previously, in April, it was reported that 83 new rural water supply projects and extensions in Sabah were approved, including 37 pre-implementation projects for the current year, with a total cost of RM4.06 billion.
