Malaysia police destroy weapons, bitcoin machines among criminal evidence

The Perak Tengah District Police in Malaysia have disposed of 830 items of criminal evidence, including weapons and sophisticated electronic equipment. The confiscated items, valued at an estimated RM252,200, were destroyed in a ceremony held at the district police headquarters.

These items originated from 60 separate investigation papers recorded between 2024 and 2026. The disposal process followed official orders and approvals from the relevant authorities, ensuring that only items no longer needed for ongoing legal proceedings were destroyed.

The disposal of case items was held to destroy goods that had received orders for disposal and approval from the authorities.

Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah, the District Police Chief, stated that the main categories of items destroyed included equipment used for illegal bitcoin mining, contraband goods, gambling paraphernalia, and various other items from general criminal cases that had completed their legal processes. Specifically, 554 bitcoin mining machines, 24 desktop switches, 24 internet routers, and 26 cables were among the disposed items, all linked to 25 completed bitcoin mining investigations over three years. The destruction also covered motorcycles, gambling equipment, and untaxed cigarettes.
