Malaysia's agriculture sector needs comprehensive transformation to attract youth

The Malaysian agricultural sector is at a critical juncture, requiring a significant overhaul to secure its future. As highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the industry must embrace a full transformation, integrating advanced technology and innovative practices to not only stay competitive but also to appeal to the aspirations of the youth.

Recognizing this imperative, the government is prioritizing a responsive training framework that aligns with the dynamic demands of the agricultural industry. The recent workshop, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) with support from the National TVET Council, brought together key ministries to streamline agricultural TVET programs. This collaborative effort aims to ensure a more organized, integrated, and high-impact delivery of training.

Strengthening the capacity of training institutions through enhanced instructor quality, modernized facilities, and industry-aligned curricula is paramount. Furthermore, fostering strategic collaborations with industry players, expanding internship opportunities, and boosting graduate employability are crucial steps. The focus on developing agropreneurs will be a key catalyst in transforming the agricultural sector into an innovative, competitive, and attractive career path for the younger generation, thereby elevating the image and appeal of agricultural TVET.
