Malaysia's Higher Education Ministry Monitors Student Safety in West Asia

Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) is actively monitoring the safety and well-being of Malaysian students pursuing studies in West Asia amidst the escalating regional conflict. The ministry is committed to ensuring students' security and is liaising with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain guidance and implement appropriate measures if the situation necessitates.

As of now, KPT has not received any direct reports indicating that Malaysian students in the region have been adversely affected by the ongoing crisis. "At the KPT level, our reference source is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Whatever it is, we will get guidance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the journey of our students and their situation while studying there," stated Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Dr. Zambry emphasized the importance of taking all precautionary steps to ensure the constant oversight and safety of Malaysians, particularly students, in the Middle Eastern countries. This proactive stance aims to provide reassurance and maintain a secure environment for academic pursuits.

In a related event, the ministry participated in the International Karisma Program: Malaysian Madani Nationhood 2026. This program, held in Putrajaya, gathered 456 local students who are preparing to study in Egypt, Morocco, and Jordan. The initiative provides students with briefings and guidance, fostering direct interaction before their departure for overseas studies.

The KPT is also reinforcing the role of Education Malaysia in these countries to safeguard the welfare of Malaysian students and assist in resolving any challenges they may encounter. This includes ensuring that students have access to support systems and resources throughout their academic journey abroad.
