Malaysia's trade hits RM340.9 billion in June

Malaysia recorded a total trade volume of RM340.9 billion in June 2026, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). Exports for the month stood at RM177.9 billion, marking a substantial increase of RM55.6 billion, or 45.4 percent, compared to June 2025.

This export growth was primarily fueled by strong performance in Penang, which contributed an additional RM39.0 billion, followed by Johor (RM8.7 billion) and Sarawak (RM4.3 billion). Other states like Selangor, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Kedah, Labuan, and Negeri Sembilan also saw export increases. However, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Melaka, and Sabah experienced declines in their exports.

Penang remained the leading exporter, accounting for 48.9 percent of the total. Johor followed with 17.6 percent, Selangor with 13.8 percent, Sarawak with 6.0 percent, and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 3.2 percent.

Imports also experienced a significant rise, increasing by RM49.7 billion, or 43.9 percent, compared to June 2025. This surge was largely driven by higher imports in Penang (RM19.5 billion), Johor (RM11.9 billion), Selangor (RM9.2 billion), and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (RM8.3 billion). While most states saw import increases, Kelantan, Labuan, Perlis, Sarawak, Terengganu, and Melaka reported decreases.

Penang dominated Malaysia's imports with a 28.4 percent share, followed by Johor (24.2 percent), Selangor (22.6 percent), the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (10.9 percent), and Kedah (4.6 percent).
