Malaysia is enhancing its defense preparedness at Pulau Layang-Layang, a strategic location facing overlapping territorial claims in the South China Sea. The government views this move as crucial in light of challenges posed by several nations, including China, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin stressed the significance of diplomatic protests as a means to firmly assert Malaysia's stance. He explained that any claim infringing upon Malaysian territory cannot be ignored without a formal objection. "The issue of protest must be made to show that we always keep our protest alive. We cannot let any statement or claim pass without showing Malaysia's position," he stated.

He highlighted a recent instance where a nation announced maritime boundaries encompassing several Malaysian islands, necessitating a formal protest from Kuala Lumpur. "That country recently announced that its maritime area includes several islands that we own. So, we need to lodge a protest," he said.

In addition to diplomatic measures, the Malaysian government is also bolstering security aspects within the South China Sea. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure the continued preservation of the nation's sovereignty amidst the complex geopolitical landscape of the region.
