Malaysian Family Anxious as Relative in Nepal Remains Uncontactable After Devastating Floods

A Malaysian family is anxiously awaiting news of a relative who was traveling in Nepal when devastating flash floods struck the region. While initial checks with the Malaysian Embassy in Nepal indicated the relative's name was not on the official list of missing persons, direct contact remains impossible.

"Alhamdulillah, I have contacted the embassy there, and her name is indeed not on the missing list. However, until now, we still cannot reach her because the communication lines there are experiencing problems," shared Irfarina, the relative, via a Threads post. This situation highlights the communication breakdown in the flood-affected areas.

The floods, triggered by overflowing rivers, have caused extensive damage in Nepal, destroying villages, roads, and infrastructure, including hydropower projects. International media reports indicate that numerous foreign nationals are among those unaccounted for, with 142 Indians, citizens from Britain, South Africa, and the United States also reported as uncontactable.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that the government is actively working to locate 54 Malaysians who have not yet been reached following the disaster in the Rasuwa district. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the situation and mobilizing all necessary efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of affected Malaysians.
