Malaysian Armed Forces ready to assist in Nepal flood humanitarian operations

The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) have expressed their readiness to deploy expertise and capabilities to support humanitarian operations in Nepal, which has been hit by severe floods. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin indicated that such assistance is contingent upon confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"We are always ready. As we know, one of the contributions ATM can provide is through humanitarian missions," the minister stated during a press conference. He added that if the government decides to proceed and ATM is involved, they are prepared to lend their skills and resources.

This offer of assistance comes at a critical time, as reports indicate that over 50 Malaysians in Nepal are still out of contact with their families. The devastating floods have left hundreds of locals and foreigners unaccounted for, raising significant concerns.

Specifically, at least 17 Malaysians are among the hundreds of foreign nationals missing following flash floods that caused severe destruction in Nepal's Rasuwa district. The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu is actively coordinating with local authorities, and search and rescue teams have been mobilized to locate and ensure the safety of affected Malaysians.
