Maldita Vecindad's 'Unidad y movimiento' video competes at Caostica MX festival

Maldita Vecindad's music video "Unidad y movimiento" is vying for the audience award at the inaugural Caostica MX festival in Mexico City. The festival, which has a 24-year history in Bilbao, Spain, is making its debut in Mexico's capital from August 25 to 28, featuring underground, bizarre, and dark humor productions.

"Unidad y movimiento," released seven months ago, celebrates the importance of ancestors and the earth. Its video was filmed in the canals of Xochimilco and showcases characters inspired by pre-Hispanic culture. The band is one of three national representatives in the competition, alongside Carrion Kids and Fakir & Los Psíquicos.

Xabi Uria, director of Caostica MX, noted that out of 55 competing productions from various countries, seven are Basque, seven are Latin American, and four are Mexican. These include the short film "Abre las piernas" and three music videos. The festival has a history of collaboration with FICUNAM and Macabro, a genre film festival, bringing underground and bizarre shorts to audiences.

Caostica MX will award 13 prizes across different categories, including Best LATAM Work and Basque Work from Latin America. Screenings will take place at Cine Tonalá with ticketed shows, and at Jardín Juárez and the Centro Cultural de España with free admission. The latter will also feature a concert by Carrion Kinds.
