The Legend of Zelda live-action movie finishes filming, Sam Neill confirmed

The highly anticipated live-action film adaptation of Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda" has completed its principal photography, with a global theatrical release scheduled for April 2027. Directed by Wes Ball, known for the "Maze Runner" series and "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," the movie is a collaborative effort between Nintendo and Sony Pictures.

The film's lead roles will be brought to life by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the courageous hero Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda of Hyrule. These casting announcements were made in July 2025. Joining them in a pivotal role is Australian actor Uli Latukefu, recognized for his work in "Black Adam," who is set to embody the formidable "Great King of Evil," Ganondorf, the saga's primary antagonist.

Further enriching the cast are Dichen Lachman, known for "Severance" and "Altered Carbon," who will play Impa, a member of the Sheikah tribe tasked with protecting and advising Princess Zelda. Adding a poignant touch to the production is the participation of veteran actor Sam Neill. The New Zealand star, celebrated for his role in "Jurassic Park," completed his scenes prior to his passing on July 13 at the age of 78, marking this as one of his final cinematic appearances.

Also confirmed for the film is Yvonne Strahovski, from "The Handmaid's Tale," who is slated to play a queen, though the specific character remains undisclosed. With filming concluded and the main cast largely revealed, anticipation is now building for the release of the first trailer and how director Wes Ball will translate the beloved world of Hyrule to the big screen.
