Mallorca Sells Maffeo to Olympiakos After Relegation

RCD Mallorca has officially agreed to transfer Spanish-Argentine defender Pablo Maffeo to Greek club Olympiakos. This move follows the team's relegation and is the second confirmed player sale, after Cyle Larin was transferred to Southampton.

Maffeo's departure comes a year after he publicly stated his time on the island "had ended," a comment that reportedly caused friction with the fanbase during his tenure. The right-back initially joined Mallorca on loan in 2021 before being permanently acquired the following year.

During his time with the club, Maffeo made 160 appearances, scoring five goals and providing 15 assists. Mallorca issued a brief statement thanking him for his service and wishing him luck in his future endeavors, marking the end of his chapter with the team.

Maffeo is not expected to be the last player to leave. Striker Vedat Muriqi is reportedly undergoing a medical with Fenerbahce, and Martín Demichelis is finalizing a move to German club Leipzig. These departures are expected to signal a significant squad overhaul as the team rebuilds after a disappointing season that led to their unexpected relegation.
