Maluku Prosecutor's Office Holds Legal Education to Prevent Village Fund Corruption

The Maluku High Prosecutor's Office has launched a strategic initiative to combat corruption in village fund management by conducting legal awareness and education programs in Ambon. The program specifically targets village officials in Hunuth-Durian Patah village, Teluk Ambon District.

Ardy Danari, Head of Legal Information and Public Relations at the Maluku High Prosecutor's Office, stated that the initiative demonstrates the prosecutor's commitment to enhancing legal understanding among village officials. The goal is to ensure that the management of village funds and village allocations operates with transparency, accountability, efficiency, and adherence to all relevant laws and regulations. The event's theme was "The Role of the Prosecutor's Office in Preventing Corruption in the Management of Village Funds and Village Allocations for Village Economic Advancement."

During the event, speakers Michel Gasperz and Mourits Palijama, accompanied by a legal awareness team, identified various potential corruption schemes. These include using budgets that deviate from the approved plan, discrepancies in project specifications, or unauthorized changes in village budgets. Misappropriation of funds for purposes other than intended and failure to deposit collected revenue into village accounts were also highlighted. Participants received in-depth explanations of the new Criminal Code's provisions on corruption, specifically Articles 603-606, to reinforce their legal awareness.

To prevent such issues, the speakers emphasized the importance of strengthening moral integrity and improving the capacity of village officials. This involves providing technical training in development planning, administration, and financial management. Optimizing the use of the Village Financial System (Siskeudes) was also stressed to ensure all financial processes follow established mechanisms. The role of internal government auditors was highlighted for continuous oversight, with a call for strict action against any identified irregularities. Regional bodies responsible for village development are urged to enhance their guidance and coordination with inspectorates and law enforcement.
